Greece's economic crisis has done little to stem the flow of illegal immigrants, for whom the country is still an entry point into the European Union.

The EU says that 55,000 people were caught entering Greece from Turkey in 2011, an estimated 17 per cent increase from 2010.

Of all the EU countries, Greece is probably the one least able to cope with the influx.
