a dream allowed...

Support our campaign for Ithageneia! (www.ithangeneia.org)

In Greece, up to 200.000 children and young adults born to immigrant parents are considered and treated as “aliens” with no official documentation and no rights at all. Those children, born or raised in Greece, within the European Union, have no access to a formal citizenship, providing them with the basic means to get a sense of belonging and build a life filled with rights and duties like regular people.

We are generation 2.0, the New Generation of Greek People, which includes the diverse people of migrant and Greek origin that were born and raised in Greece.

We stand up for our right to be all equal citizens of the country we were born and/or raised.

Sign our petition at www.ithageneia.org to challenge Europe and the Greek Government to provide access on citizenship to all children born and/or raised in Greece.

When you don't exist - Amnesty International campaign

When you don't exist is Amnesty International's campaign for the human rights of migrants, refugees and asylum-seekers in Europe and at its borders.

People move to Europe for different reasons. Some flee persecution or war. Others leave because of chronic poverty. They hope to find a safer, better future in Europe. But too often they find a different reality.

Europe is failing migrants, refugees and asylum-seekers. Negative attitudes to asylum-seekers and migrants are widespread. European countries are stepping up measures to control migration. This can cause serious human rights violations. People on the move have their rights violated, often out of the public eye. They are effectively made invisible.
Thousands in Norway Sing Peace Song Children Of The Rainbow Against Right-Wing Terrorism

Tens of thousands of people have protested in Norway against the anti-immigration views of Anders Behring Breivik, as they sang a peace song derided by the terrorist.

A crowd of around 40,000 in the capital Oslo chose 'Children of the Rainbow' which celebrates the type of multi-cultural society Breivik has said he despised and one he dismissed during his trial as Marxist propaganda.

Thousands of Norwegians also held similar musical demonstrations in squares across the country.

Breivik mentioned the tune as an example of how he believes "cultural Marxists" have infiltrated its schools and weakened its society. He claimed the song had been used to brainwash the country's youth into supporting immigration.

Breivik has admitted carrying out twin attacks on July 22 last year - including a bomb he planted outside government offices in the capital which killed eight people.

The other atrocity was a shooting rampage at the ruling Labour Party's annual youth camp on Utoya island that left 69 others dead, mostly teenagers.

He said he was targeting the party because he claims it has betrayed the country by opening its borders to Muslim immigrants.

But he has denied criminal guilt, saying he did so in defence of Norwegian ethnic purity.

After singing, people in Oslo then walked along several streets to the court where Breivik is on trial, close to the site of the bombing.

Most left roses, a symbol of the Labour Party, on the security fence around the building.

The musical protest came on the ninth day of Breivik's trial, where survivors of the two attacks began giving evidence.

Children of the Rainbow

A sky full of stars.
Blue sea as far as you can see.
A land where flowers grow.
Could you want more?
Together we will live
every sister and every brother.
Small children of the rainbow
and a flourishing world.

Some believe there is no point.
Others waste their time with talk.
Some believe that we can live on
plastic and synthetic foods.
And some steal from the young,
who are sent out to fight.
Some steal from the many
who will come after us.

Refrain:

Say it to all the children!
And tell every father and mother.
We still have a chance
to share our hope for this world.

Refrain:

Say it to all the children!
And tell every father and mother.
We still have a chance
to share our hope for this world.

Dublin's Trap by Bryan Carter

Through the experience of an Afghan asylum seeker who won a historic victory at the European Court of Human Rights, this film shines a new light on the consequences of migration policies in the crisis-affected country of Greece.

"Dublin's Trap" gives an equal voice to politicians, intellectuals, activists, immigrants, and extremists. This approach highlights how austerity measures, combined with an unprecedented influx of immigrants, foster racial tensions, increased nationalism, and a humanitarian crisis at Europe's external borders.

Further aggravating the situation is an uneven EU repatriation mechanism known as Dublin II.

Directed by Bryan Carter & Sean Carter
Research Supervisor: Angeliki Katsoulaki

According to Spanish law the police can check the identity of people in public places when there is a security concern, for example when a crime has been committed in the area. However, Amnesty International research has revealed that deliberate identity checks on foreigners in the absence of any security concern are widespread.

Lobbying firm's memo spells out plan to undermine Occupy Wall Street

Lobbying firm's memo spells out plan to undermine Occupy Wall Street

By Jonathan Larsen and Ken Olshansky, MSNBC TV

A well-known Washington lobbying firm with links to the financial industry has proposed an $850,000 plan to take on Occupy Wall Street and politicians who might express sympathy for the protests, according to a memo obtained by the MSNBC program “Up w/ Chris Hayes.”

The proposal was written on the letterhead of the lobbying firm Clark Lytle Geduldig & Cranford and addressed to one of CLGC’s clients, the American Bankers Association.

CLGC’s memo proposes that the ABA pay CLGC $850,000 to conduct “opposition research” on Occupy Wall Street in order to construct “negative narratives” about the protests and allied politicians. The memo also asserts that Democratic victories in 2012 would be detrimental for Wall Street and targets specific races in which it says Wall Street would benefit by electing Republicans instead.

According to the memo, if Democrats embrace OWS, “This would mean more than just short-term political discomfort for Wall Street. … It has the potential to have very long-lasting political, policy and financial impacts on the companies in the center of the bullseye.”

The memo also suggests that Democratic victories in 2012 should not be the ABA’s biggest concern. “… (T)he bigger concern,” the memo says, “should be that Republicans will no longer defend Wall Street companies.”

Two of the memo’s authors, partners Sam Geduldig and Jay Cranford, previously worked for House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio. Geduldig joined CLGC before Boehner became speaker; Cranford joined CLGC this year after serving as the speaker’s assistant for policy. A third partner, Steve Clark, is reportedly “tight” with Boehner, according to a story by Roll Call that CLGC features on its website.

Jeff Sigmund, an ABA spokesperson, confirmed that the association got the memo. “Our Government Relations staff did receive the proposal – it was unsolicited and we chose not to act on it in any way,” he said in a statement to "Up."

CLGC did not return calls seeking comment.

Boehner spokesman Michael Steel declined to comment on the memo. But he responded to its characterization of Republicans as defenders of Wall Street by saying, “My understanding is that President Obama is the single largest recipient of donations from Wall Street.”

On “Up” Saturday, Obama campaign adviser Anita Dunn responded by saying that the majority of the president’s re-election campaign is fueled by small donors. She rejected the suggestion that the president himself is too close to Wall Street, saying “If that’s the case, why were tough financial reforms passed over party line Republican opposition?”

The CLGC memo raises another issue that it says should be of concern to the financial industry -- that OWS might find common cause with the Tea Party. “Well-known Wall Street companies stand at the nexus of where OWS protestors and the Tea Party overlap on angered populism,” the memo says. “…This combination has the potential to be explosive later in the year when media reports cover the next round of bonuses and contrast it with stories of millions of Americans making do with less this holiday season.”

The memo outlines a 60-day plan to conduct surveys and research on OWS and its supporters so that Wall Street companies will be prepared to conduct a media campaign in response to OWS. Wall Street companies “likely will not be the best spokespeople for their own cause,” according to the memo. “A big challenge is to demonstrate that these companies still have political strength and that making them a political target will carry a severe political cost.”

Part of the plan CLGC proposes is to do “statewide surveys in at least eight states that are shaping up to be the most important of the 2012 cycle.”

Specific races listed in the memo are U.S. Senate races in Florida, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Wisconsin, Ohio, New Mexico and Nevada as well as the gubernatorial race in North Carolina.

The memo indicates that CLGC would research who has contributed financial backing to OWS, noting that, “Media reports have speculated about associations with George Soros and others.”

"It will be vital,” the memo says, “to understand who is funding it and what their backgrounds and motives are. If we can show that they have the same cynical motivation as a political opponent it will undermine their credibility in a profound way.”

Krisis, is a feature documentary film connected to the Prism GR2011 project, a collective documentation of Greece during the economic crisis, shot with DSLR cameras during 2010-11. Through a process of creative collaboration, a group of 14 photojournalists and videographers, were mentored, enabling them to make the transition to a multimedia storyteller. 'Krisis' is the synthesis of these different stories into a feature documentary that explores how Greece and the Greeks are handling the crisis. In addition, The Prism is a testament to how creativity an innovation can occur in the darkest of hours.

November 17, 2011 saw record numbers of people taking to the streets in New York City and cities all over the U.S. and the world, in support of the Occupy Wall Street Movement on it's two month anniversary. A particularly moving moment was a live projection mic check on the Verizon bldg as thousands crossed the Brooklyn Bridge from downtown Manhattan. Another world is possible.
