Η πρωτοβουλία:

Αυτή είναι αρχικά μια πρωτοβουλία 7 προσώπων, σκεπτόμενων ελλήνων και μεταναστών που πιστεύουν ότι απέναντι στα ψεύδη και στις διαστρεβλώσεις που κατακλύζουν το δημόσιο λόγο χρειάζεται να αντιπαρατεθούν τα δεδομένα, οι αλήθειες και η ίδια η φωνή των μεταναστών, των προσφύγων, των πολιτογραφημένων ελλήνων και των ερευνητών.
Αυτή ΔΕΝ είναι μια πρωτοβουλία του i-RED που απλά προσφέρει το χώρο - φυσικό και διαδικτυακό - ούτε την υπογράφουν φορείς, προς το παρόν μόνο πρόσωπα.
Είναι μια πρωτοβουλία που θα συνεχισθεί από μετανάστες, ερευνητές και σκεπτόμενους συμπολίτες μας με αποκλειστικό στόχο να ενημερωθεί το αποπροσανατολσιμένο κοινό και να διαφυλαχθεί η κοινή μας δημοκρατική συμβίωση.
Θα ακολουθήσει συλλογή υπογραφών, καθώς και άλλες εκδηλώσεις εμβαθύνοντας σε όσα τόσα χρόνια δεν συζητήσαμε ούτε αντιμετωπίσαμε όπως θα άξιζε και έπρεπε, και σήμερα κινδυνεύουν να μας διχάσουν απειλώντας την κοινωνική συνοχή.

Declaration for the Defense of Society and Democracy

Greek society is suffering both from the crisis and the responses to it, which have reached a dead-end. Major social and political institutions that were created with enormous struggles and sacrifices in post-War Greece – social security, the public health care system, public education, public transport, the natural and urban environment, the right to live a safe existence, and various elemental goods and services that underwrite the very existence of an already curtailed and devalued Greek state – are all being utterly dismantled so that Greek society is now dying of asphyxiation.

These dead-end responses rest on the blackmailing dilemma: austerity or bankruptcy? Yet, this is hardly a dilemma – it is rather a negative aggregate: both austerity and bankruptcy. The tri-monthly threat to expel Greece from the Eurozone constitutes an ethical alienation and an economic catastrophe, precisely because it strengthens the profound recession, turning the whole of Europe into an agent of uncertainty, financial instability, and proliferation of the crisis. It is Europe itself that is producing the conditions that make it impossible for Greece to fulfill its debt obligations.

It is becoming clearer every day that the specific political response to the crisis, which culminated in the parliamentary approval of the Second Memorandum, is not a viable process of overcoming the crisis or alleviating the long term pathologies of the Greek political and economic system, but a catastrophic process that deepens already existing terms of social injustice. The crisis is not experienced by those who exploited the state and public interest for decades, but by the most vulnerable social constituencies. We are confronted with an unprecedented initiative of an upwards redistribution of wealth and power that subverts the European social model by exacerbating the most extreme economic and social inequities, while simultaneously empowering the return of nationalism and the intensification of racism and xenophobia.

The falsified use of the notion of “reform” is indicative of the incapacity to overcome the crisis. Even those who did hope that the crisis would signal the opportunity to clean up or radically renovate existing institutions understand now that such imposed “reforms” destroy what is left of the social fabric. The dominant discourse regarding Greece, both within the country and abroad, is moralistic, guilt-ridden, and punitive. Every sort of disagreement or critique is dismissed as “populism”, “unionism”, or “anti-Europeanism”. After witnessing the stigmatization of the democratizing process following the fall of the Junta in 1974, we now witness the legitimation of the Far Right, which has been invited to participate in the current government. At the same time, we are bombarded with the demand that government be left in the hands of “Sages”, to coalitions of “technocrats” who will “save” the country. These are powerful autocratic and anti-democratic tendencies that employ an extreme populist rhetoric, to exploit the understandable sentiment of people’s fear-ridden disgust with the now rapidly collapsing old political order. We reject this old order as well, but without, however, subscribing to the shallow “ethnically proud” discourse that uncritically opposes the debt agreements without considering or proposing an alternative plan that can be realistically implemented.

Both Greece and Europe are sinking into a co-dependent crisis that demonstrates, not only the institutional weaknesses of the EU but the unacceptable crisis management by conservative national leaderships with neoliberal statutes and projections. No matter how difficult it seems, we owe it to ourselves to work together for a democratic European society that will continue to project its historical and political values, and provide new content to globalization. In any case, no solution can ever be reached at a national level; it must come to terms with the broader circumstances that affect the entire continent and even beyond. Today, Greeks are being humiliated, tomorrow other peoples, in a process of spreading suspicion and hatred among all. We are facing a catastrophic moment in European history. In this respect, solidarity with the Greek people underlines a major political wager for all of progressive Europe.

Against an uncritical class-based discourse, we owe it to ourselves to respond with critical thought drawn from the daily experience of citizens’ needs, especially those who are targeted unjustly by the crisis. We, the undersigned, are declaring our commitment to engage in the formation of a powerful front for the defense of society and democracy. We are forming a broad coalition that will bring together people from a multitude of political domains with the objective to restore the real meaning of words against an abusive language of self-interest, to help produce more creative modes of communication among social spaces and citizens with different affiliations, who share the elemental values of justice, solidarity, and democracy, in other words, the constitutive identities of citizens in a free-thinking and democratic polity.

Rejecting the logic of the “one-way street”, the ahistorical stereotypes that vilify Greek society thus shredding our collective dignity, we take up the task of elucidating, the real consequences of this crisis, both within Greece and abroad. The Greek crisis is part of a broader crisis that is changing the foundations of our current historical times. In this transitional period it becomes essential to understand that the very meaning of society, and certainly the meaning of democracy and of citizenry, are under threat of being dismantled and must be defended at all cost.

i-RED, 10 members of the RED Network combating racism and Xenophobia, the Greek Forum of Migrants, Asante, 12 migrant communities and the Refugee Forum in Greece, the European Network Against Racism, the Greek ENAR representatives composed by 18 organisations, the Platform for International Cooperation on Undocumented Migrants (PICUM), the Migrants’ Rights Network and the AEDH (Association Europeenne des Droits de l’Homme),

express their support to the Greek citizenship reform and to those migrants who wish to participate to the Greek and European societies as citizens with rights and obligations, pursuing their constitutional aims, by respecting and sharing human rights and civic values.

In times of unprecedented economic as well as socio-political crisis in Greece and in Europe, the respect and consolidation of notions such as ‘common good’ and ‘public interest’ cannot occur but by valorizing and building on the people and their wish to serve the collectivity by participating productively in their society of belonging.

Greece in 2010 has adopted a law which brought the country closer to the European family of nations and societies, which define their identity through sharing political, human and citizen rights’ values and principles. Through the law 3838/2010 Greece has combined even more efficiently and generously than the prior citizenship code, jus soli to jus sanguinis and by doing so, it reached the average of the European Union countries.

At the core of such reform lies what currently is of concern of policy making initiatives in Europe. The recognition of the bonds with the European nations of migrants who are most active and promising members of their citizenry: children and adults who were born in the country and/or lived for at least 3-5 years establishing the centre of their life projects in Europe.

A row of important interventions in Europe lately have encouraged ever improving citizenship reforms, such as the one that marked the positive step of Greece in this path.

In view of the legal challenging of the citizenship reform in Greece on the basis of arguments, such as the threat of altering the ethnic or racial composition of a nation and the undocumented status of migrant applicants in the past, the signatory organisations wish to note that:

- any controversy regarding the constitutionality of the law and the composition of a nation as based exclusively on blood/ancestor relations risks to inflame an already explosive landscape of intolerance, xenophobia and discrimination. The latter sadly emerges in times of heavy crisis as the European history narrates. The development and progress of European nations beyond race and ethnic origin is an important European acquis to be respected and valorized especially in difficult times like today.

- Persons may not be ‘illegal’ as such. What may oblige migrants to live under a status of illegality of residence are inefficient or problematic laws and their application. This is why all modern migrants’ receiving countries have at some point reasonably resorted to regularization programs. The very wide appeal of the latter to migrants reveals their deep wish to participate and contribute to the society they chose to belong to.

Την Παρασκευή 2 Δεκεμβρίου στην Ολομέλεια του Συμβουλίου της Επικρατείας θα συζητηθεί αίτηση ακύρωσης ενός αθηναίου δικηγόρου κατά των διατάξεων του νέου Κώδικα Ελληνικής Ιθαγένειας που προβλέπουν την κτήση της ελληνικής ιθαγένειας από τα παιδιά νόμιμων μεταναστών που γεννιούνται στην Ελλάδα ή ολοκληρώνουν επιτυχώς 6 τάξεις του ελληνικού σχολείου, καθώς και κατά της συμμετοχής μη κοινοτικών αλλοδαπών στις δημοτικές και περιφερειακές εκλογές.
Ήδη το Δ' Τμήμα του ΣΤΕ έχει αποφανθεί υπέρ της συγκεκριμένης αίτησης.
Αν αυτή η στάση επιβεβαιωθεί στην ολομέλεια, οι θετικές αυτές διατάξεις θα καταστούν ανενεργές σε σημαντικές συνέπειες για τη θέση της "δεύτερης γενιάς" αλλά και του συνόλου των μεταναστών στην ελληνική κοινωνία.

Η αστυνομία οφείλει να λογοδοτεί (Τρίτη 15 Νοεμβρίου 2011, 18:00, Ε.Σ.Η.Ε.Α.)

Την τελευταία περίοδο, παράλληλα με τις εντεινόμενες κοινωνικές αντιδράσεις και διαμαρτυρίες των πολιτών παρατηρείται σαφής έξαρση και γενίκευση της αστυνομικής βίας. Έτσι, από τις καταγγελίες των προηγούμενων ετών για ξυλοδαρμούς και κακομεταχείριση μεταναστών και «συνήθων υπόπτων», βρισκόμαστε πλέον αντιμέτωποι και με γενικευμένη χρήση βίας που στρέφεται κατά απροσδιόριστου αριθμού προσώπων που διαδηλώνουν. Οι καταγγελίες για ανεξέλεγκτη χρήση βίας και χημικών και για υπόγειες διαδρομές μεταξύ μελών των σωμάτων ασφαλείας και ομάδων με παρακρατικά χαρακτηριστικά έχουν συχνά σύμμαχο τον αδιάψευστο δημοσιογραφικό φακό.

Η ανοχή και η ατιμωρησία για υποθέσεις αστυνομικής βίας αφενός μεν την καθιστούν αχαλίνωτη, αφετέρου δε παραβιάζουν θεμελιώδη ανθρώπινα δικαιώματα. Το πρόβλημα της αστυνομικής ατιμωρησίας δεν είναι νέο, αλλά ενδημικό και πολλάκις διαπιστωμένο τόσο σε εθνικό όσο και σε διεθνές επίπεδο. Επί των ημερών μας, όμως, όσο η κοινωνική διαμαρτυρία εντείνεται, η αστυνομική βία αποκτά χαρακτηριστικά ανεξέλεγκτα και μαζικά. Το ότι η βία στις διαδηλώσεις εντείνεται δεν μπορεί να είναι πρόσχημα για την αστυνομική βία. Και τούτο, διότι η αστυνομία δεν είναι μια αντίπαλη συμμορία, αλλά μηχανισμός της συντεταγμένης Πολιτείας που οφείλει να λογοδοτεί για τις πράξεις του.

Στο πλαίσιο αυτό και ενόψει των εκδηλώσεων και κινητοποιήσεων του επόμενου διαστήματος, η Ελληνική Ένωση για τα Δικαιώματα του Ανθρώπου (ΕΕΔΑ) διοργανώνει εκδήλωση-συζήτηση την Τρίτη 15 Νοεμβρίου 2011 στην Ε.Σ.Η.Ε.Α. (Ακαδημίας 20), στις 18:00. Θα μιλήσουν:

UNHCR-NCHR-NGOs Network launched to record racist incidents

The UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Greece (UNHCR), the National Commission for Human Rights and a number of civil society and nongovernmental organizations, including i-RED which contributed in design and setup, have joined forces to form a network to record incidents of racist violence.

The pilot program is aimed at systematically recording racially motivated attacks as reported to organisation providing support, assistance and medical care.

It will run until the end of the year and the organizers will present their conclusions at the beginning of next year, when they will make proposals about how to tackle the problem.

100th ILO annual Conference adopted a Convention on Domestic Workers

100th ILO annual Conference decides to bring an estimated 53 to 100 million domestic workers worldwide under the realm of labour standards

The government, worker and employer delegates at the 100th annual Conference of the International Labour Organization (ILO) on Thursday, 16 June adopted a historic set of international standards aimed at improving the working conditions of tens of millions of domestic workers worldwide.

GENEVA, (ILO News) – The government, worker and employer delegates at the 100^th annual Conference of the International Labour Organization (ILO) on Thursday, 16 June adopted a historic set of international standards aimed at improving the working conditions of tens of millions of domestic workers worldwide.

“We are moving the standards system of the ILO into the informal economy for the first time, and this is a breakthrough of great significance,” said Juan Somavia, ILO Director-General. “History is being made.”

Conference delegates adopted the Convention on Domestic Workers (2011) by a vote of 396 to 16, with 63 abstentions and the accompanying Recommendation by a vote of 434 to 8, with 42 abstentions. The ILO is the only tripartite organization of the UN, and each of its 183 Member States is represented by two government delegates, and one employer and one worker delegate, with an independent vote.

The two standards will be the 189th Convention and the supplementing 201^st Recommendation adopted by the Labour Organization since its creation in 1919. The Convention is an international treaty that is binding on Member States that ratify it, while the Recommendation provides more detailed guidance on how to apply the Convention.

The new ILO standards set out that domestic workers around the world who care for families and households, must have the same basic labour rights as those available to other workers: reasonable hours of work, weekly rest of at least 24 consecutive hours, a limit on in-kind payment, clear information on terms and conditions of employment, as well as respect for fundamental principles and rights at work including freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining.

Recent ILO estimates based on national surveys and/or censuses of 117 countries, place the number of domestic workers at around 53 million. However, experts say that due to the fact that this kind of work is often hidden and unregistered, the total number of domestic workers could be as high as 100 million. In developing countries, they make up at least 4 to 12 per cent of wage employment. Around 83 per cent of these workers are women or girls and many are migrant workers.

The Convention defines domestic work as work performed in or for a household or households. While the new instruments cover all domestic workers, they provide for special measures to protect those workers who, because of their young age or nationality or live-in status, may be exposed to additional risks relative to their peers, among others.

According to ILO proceedings, the new Convention will come into force after two countries have ratified it.

“Bringing the domestic workers into the fold of our values is a strong move, for them and for all workers who aspire to decent work, but it also has strong implications for migration and of course for gender equality,” Mr. Somavia said.

In its introductory text, the new Convention says that “domestic work continues to be undervalued and invisible and is mainly carried out by women and girls, many of whom are migrants or members of disadvantaged communities and who are particularly vulnerable to discrimination in respect of conditions of employment and work, and to other abuses of human rights.”

Michelle Bachelet, Executive Director of UN Women, in her address to the Conference Committee, said that the deficit of decent work among domestic workers “can no longer be tolerated,” adding that UN Women would support the process of ratification and application of the new ILO instruments.

“We need effective and binding standards to provide decent work to our domestic workers, a clear framework to guide governments, employers and workers,” said Halimah Yacob, the Workers Vice-Chair from Singapore. She noted that the collective responsibility was to provide domestic workers with what they lacked most: recognition as workers; and respect and dignity as human beings.

Paul MacKay from New Zealand, the Employers Vice-Chair declared: “We all agree on the importance of bringing domestic work into the mainstream and responding to serious human rights concerns. All employers agree there are opportunities to do better by domestic workers and the households and families for whom they work”.

“Social dialogue has found its reflection in the results achieved here,” concluded the Chair of the Committee, Mr. H.L. Cacdac, Government delegate from the Philippines, when he closed the discussion.

“This is a truly major achievement,” said Manuela Tomei, Director of the ILO’s Conditions of Work and Employment Programme, calling the new standards “robust, yet flexible.” Ms. Tomei added that the new standards make clear that “domestic workers are neither servants nor ‘members of the family’, but workers. And after today they can no longer be considered second-class workers.”

The adoption of the new standards is the result of a decision taken in March 2008 by the ILO Governing Body to place the elaboration of an instrument on the agenda of the Conference. In 2010, the Conference held its first discussion and decided to proceed with the drafting of a Convention supplemented by a Recommendation adopted today.

Η έρευνα για την παρουσία των μουσουλμάνων στην Ευρώπη έχει αναδείξει διαφορετικές πτυχές των πολιτικών αναγνώρισης του θρησκευτικού πλουραλισμού. Hανέγερση τζαμιών σε διάφορες ευρωπαϊκές πόλεις και η ανοχή συμβόλων της μουσουλμανικής ταυτότητας στο δημόσιο χώρο είναι από τα κεντρικά ζητήματα στην συζήτηση για το Ισλάμ στην Ευρώπη.

Μετά τις 11/9/2001, τα ζητήματα αυτά βρίσκονται συχνά στο επίκεντρο των συζητήσεων για την ένταξη των μουσουλμανικών πληθυσμών στις Ευρωπαϊκές κοινωνίες, ενώ αντικατοπτρίζουν, σε σημαντικό βαθμό, το κλίμα της “Ισλαμοφοβίας” που σχετίζεται με διεθνείς γεωπολιτικές εξελίξεις και τον “πόλεμο κατά της τρομοκρατίας”.

Σε αυτό το πλαίσιο, η Ελλάδα αποτελεί ξεχωριστή περίπτωση, όχι μόνο λόγω της σχετικά πρόσφατης έλευσης μεταναστών από μουσουλμανικές χώρες, αλλά και εξαιτίας της μουσουλμανικής μειονότητας της Θράκης, δηλαδή ενός αυτόχθονου πληθυσμού με ελληνική ιθαγένεια. Το Ισλάμ στον Ελλαδικό χώρο έχει ιστορικές ρίζες που ανάγονται στο Οθωμανικό παρελθόν. Η μειονότητα είναι προιόν της Συνθήκης της Λωζάννης, η οποία καθορίζει και τα δικαιώματά της. Μέχρι σήμερα, η μουσουλμανική παρουσία στην Ελλάδα φαίνεται μόνο ανεπαίσθητα να απηχεί τις διεθνείς και ευρωπαϊκές εξελίξεις.

Η ημερίδα αυτή διοργανώνεται στα πλαίσια του ερευνητικού προγράμματος ‘IslaminGreece’ και σκοπεύει να διερευνήσει το θέμα της διαπραγμάτευσης της θρησκευτικής ταυτότητας και πρακτικής μεταξύ τόσο των αυτόχθονων όσο και των μεταναστών μουσουλμάνων, καθώς επίσης και το πολιτικό πλαίσιο της διεκδίκησης και αναγνώρισης θρησκευτικών δικαιωμάτων. Μια τέτοια σύγκριση μεταξύ μειονότητας και μεταναστών αποκτά ιδιαίτερο ενδιαφέρον στην ελληνική περίπτωση, όπου η Ορθοδοξία αποτελεί κεντρικό στοιχείο της εθνικής ταυτότητας και όπου άλλωστε δεν ολοκληρώθηκε ποτέ ο χωρισμός της Εκκλησίας από το Κράτος. Σκοπός της ημερίδας είναι να αποτελέσει βήμα διαλόγου μεταξύ ακαδημαϊκών, πολιτικών φορέων και μεταναστευτικών/μειονοτικών κοινοτήτων.

Με πρωτοβουλία της Ελληνικής Ένωσης για τα Δικαιώματα του Ανθρώπου και αφορμή τα πρόσφατα γεγονότα ρατσιστικής βίας στην Αθήνα διοργανώνουμε εκδήλωση – συζήτηση με θέμα

Ακροδεξιά, πολιτικός εξτρεμισμός και βία

Για πολλά χρόνια το ελληνικό πολιτικό σύστημα καθησυχάζονταν ότι στη χώρα για λόγους που σχετίζονται με το νωπό και διαρκές παρελθόν πολιτειακών εκτροπών, τα περιθώρια ανάπτυξης και εδραίωσης του ακροδεξιού λόγου και δράσης είναι περιορισμένα. Η ανάπτυξη του αγοραίου και επιθετικού ταυτόχρονα ακροδεξιού λόγου των ημερών μας σε συνδυασμό μάλιστα με την όξυνση περιστατικών ρατσιστικής βίας σε βάρος μεταναστών έχει προ πολλού αναιρέσει την εγκυρότητα αυτής της διαπίστωσης. Σήμερα, στην Ελλάδα, αλλά κυρίως στην Αθήνα βρισκόμαστε ενώπιον μιας καινοφανούς κατάστασης, η οποία όμως είχε, κατά κάποιον τρόπο, προαναγγελθεί. Κι όμως δεν έγινε τίποτε για να προληφθεί.

Η εκδήλωση έχει στόχο να αναδείξει το ζήτημα “ακροδεξιά, πολιτικός εξτρεμισμός και βία”, να φωτίσει πτυχές που ως τώρα δεν φαίνονταν ή να αποδομήσει τις “αυτονόητες” όσο και παραπλανητικές βεβαιότητες με τρόπο παρεμβατικό και τεκμηριωμένο. Οι ομιλητές, προερχόμενοι από διαφορετικούς επαγγελματικούς χώρους και πολιτικά περιβάλλοντα θα προσεγγίσουν το θέμα, ο καθένας αναδεικνύοντας διαφορετικές προτεραιότητες και στρατηγικές ανάλυσης και αντιμετώπισης του φαινομένου.

The members of the organizations below, partners of the RED Network (Rights Equality & Diversity European Network), a network consisting of NGOs and research institutes from17 EU member states, are deeply concerned about the racist incidents depicting Black people as ”slaves” at Lund University and Malmö University in Sweden.

At Lund University, Hallands Student Nation organised a party on April 18th, 2011. During the evening, a number of students were led into the party with their faces painted in racist depiction of Black people refered to as ”Black face”. They had lynching ropes around their necks and were led by another white fellow student representing a white “slave trader”.During the course of the evening, a ”slave auction” where the "slaves" were sold was enacted.

Upon finding out about it, Mr. Momodou Jallow (Board Member of Center Against Racism - Centrum mot rasism) which is one of the partners in the RED Network), who works at Malmö University, reported the incident to the police as incitement to hatred. As a consequence, posters depicting Mr. Momodou Jallow as a slave in chains with a text saying ”where is our run away nigger slave?” were spread all over the city of Lund and at Malmö University.

We therefore welcome the letter from the European Network Against Racism (ENAR) to Sweden's EU Minister Birgitta Ohlsson, in which ENAR condemns these unacceptable violations of Human Rights taking place in Sweden.

The incidents also comes in the year 2011, which the United Nations General Assembly has declared as the Year for people of African Descent. Having that in mind, we call for greater understanding and public awareness of thebrutality of the Transatlantic slave trade, during which millions of African women, men and children were kidnapped, killed and raped.

We hope that the Minister of Education, Jan Björklund and the Minister of Integration, Erik Ullenhag sees it as an opportunity to address the specific needs of victims of racism and racial hatred. It is imperative that victim’s right’s are safeguarded and not trivialised or denied. It is also important to recognise that racial hate crime can spread well beyond the victimized individual. Hate crimes can terrorise communities. We therefore call for effective efforts to ensure that racism and racial hatred in Sweden is wholeheartedly and openly denounced as unacceptable. This is vital to prevent the generating of a culture of passive acceptance which allows racial hatred and racism to foster.

Κράτος εν κράτει αποδεικνύονται τα κυκλώματα στην Ηλεία. Η μαφιόζικη επίθεση κατά των απεσταλμένων του «Βήματος», του δημοσιογράφου Γιώργου Πουλιόπουλου και του φωτορεπόρτερ Ιάκωβου Χατζησταύρου, που πραγματοποιούσαν ρεπορτάζ για τις άθλιες συνθήκες εργασίας μεταναστών στα χωράφια της Μανωλάδας, καταδεικνύει ότι παρά τις προσπάθειες της Αστυνομίας και τα δεκάδες δημοσιεύματα τα τελευταία χρόνια, τα τοπικά κυκλώματα ζουν και βασιλεύουν. Επίθεση δέχτηκαν σήμερα το μεσημέρι ο δημοσιογράφος του «Βήματος» Γιώργος Πουλιόπουλος και ο φωτορεπόρτερ Ιάκωβος Χατζησταύρου, την ώρα που έκαναν ρεπορτάζ για τις συνθήκες διαβίωσης και εργασίας των αλλοδαπών εργατών φράουλας στη Μανωλάδα Ηλείας. Ο δημοσιογράφος και ο φωτορεπόρτερ μεταφέρθηκαν στο Κέντρο Υγείας της Βάρδας και αργότερα στο αστυνομικό τμήμα της περιοχής, όπου θα καταθέσουν μηνύσεις.

Το βίαιο ξέσπασμα των μεταναστών στην Καλαβρία της Ιταλίας απέναντι στην ανελέητη εκμετάλλευση από τη Μαφία, που χρησιμοποίησε έως και όπλα για να «τιθασσεύσει» τους σύγχρονους Σπάρτακους, γκρέμισε τις ψευδαισθήσεις. Αραγε πόσο μακριά είναι το Ροζάρνο της Καλαβρίας από τη Μανωλάδα της Ηλείας;...

Ένα σύντομο ιστορικό για τα φραουλοχώραφα της Ηλείας από το Tsantiri.gr

Το 2006 έπιασε φωτιά στη Μανωλάδα σε έναν από τους αυτοσχέδιους καταυλισμούς με σκηνές από νάιλον στο χώμα, όπου διέμεναν εκατοντάδες μετανάστες εργάτες γης υπό άθλιες συνθήκες. Μετά δημοσίευμα του περιοδικού «Ε», την άνοιξη του 2008, το θέμα ήρθε στη δημοσιότητα. Το υπ. Εργασίας ζήτησε από το Σώμα Επιθεωρητών Εργασίας να προβεί σε ελέγχους. Το υπ. Υγείας διέταξε υγειονομικό έλεγχο. Το υπ. Εσωτερικών δήλωσε ότι ετοιμάζει προεδρικό διάταγμα για ευπρεπείς όρους διαβίωσης των εποχιακών εργατών. Μετά απεργία 1.500 εργατών, τον Απρίλιο, με αίτημα την αύξηση ημερομισθίου στα 30 ευρώ, ακολούθησαν συγκρούσεις με ντόπιους, επενέβη η αστυνομία που συνέλαβε μετανάστες. Δύο χρόνια αργότερα, κανένα ουσιαστικό μέτρο δεν είχε ληφθεί για τη βελτίωση της κατάστασης των ξένων εργατών. Η Λάπα και η Λακόπετρα στην Αχαΐα, η Πιερία και η Καβάλα είναι κάποια από τα μέρη όπου δημοσιοποιήθηκαν αντίστοιχα περιστατικά διακίνησης ανθρώπων με σκοπό την εκμετάλλευση. Το 2010 το Εργατοϋπαλληλικό Κέντρο Αθήνας δήλωνε στους ερευνητές του Κέντρου Συμπαράστασης Παλιννοστούντων Μεταναστών (ΚΣΠΜ) της Συνοδικής Επιτροπής Αλληλοβοήθειας Ξένων Εκκλησιών ότι είχαν καταγραφεί εκατοντάδες περιπτώσεις Ρουμάνων και Βούλγαρων που μεταφέρονταν μέσω γραφείων ευρέσεως εργασίας για εποχιακή εργασία υπό εξευτελιστικές συνθήκες.

Η άθλια εκμετάλλευση των αλλοδαπών εργατών γης από τους παραγωγούς φράουλας στη Νέα Μανωλάδα Ηλείας έχει να κάνει και με την περιβόητη δήλωση εργοδότη για τα ημερομίσθια που πρέπει να παρουσιάσουν οι αλλοδαποί προκειμένου να νομιμοποιηθούν. Πρόκειται για ένα απλό χαρτί το οποίο, σύμφωνα με τις καταγγελίες, πλήρωναν με πολλές εκατοντάδες ευρώ για να το αποκτήσουν. Αυτό το συμπέρασμα βγαίνει από την πρόσφατη έρευνα της Υπηρεσίας Εσωτερικών Υποθέσεων της ΕΛ.ΑΣ. στον δήμο της Βουπρασίας, στον οποίο εντοπίστηκε και εξαρθρώθηκε κύκλωμα υπαλλήλων που εκμεταλλευόταν την αγωνία νομιμοποίησης των αλλοδαπών εργατών δρώντας με την ανοχή την εκπροσώπων της Τοπικής Αυτοδιοίκησης. Σύμφωνα με το Πόρισμα της Υπηρεσίας Εσωτερικών Υποθέσεων της ΕΛ.ΑΣ.

Εικόνες απίστευτης βαρβαρότητας και ντροπής, που αναμένεται να εκθέσουν σύντομα τη χώρα μας διεθνώς, εκτυλίχθηκαν χθες και προχθές με την προκλητική ανοχή και τη στάση της Αστυνομίας, στο «κράτος» της Νέας Μανωλάδας Ηλείας. Θύτες, οι πανίσχυροι οικονομικά «φραουλάδες» της περιοχής και θύματα δημοσιογράφοι, συνδικαλιστές του ΚΚΕ και οι «άθλιοι» εξεγερμένοι αλλοδαποί εργάτες.

- Εικόνες φρίκης αντίκρισαν οι άνδρες του μικτού κλιμακίου των υπουργείων Απασχόλησης, Δημόσιας Τάξης και Υγείας, οι οποίοι με την αρωγή των αστυνομικών αρχών, χθες, πραγματοποίησαν εκτενείς ελέγχους στα θερμοκήπια της ντροπής, στην Ηλεία. Επιβεβαιώνοντας πλήρως το προχθεσινό ρεπορτάζ του ΕΤ, με το οποίο αναδείχθηκε η τραγική κατάσταση στις «δουλοπαροικίες» που έχουν στηθεί γύρω από τις καλλιέργειες φράουλας, μόλις λίγα χιλιόμετρα από την πόλη του Πύργου, ο ειδικός γραμματέας του ΣΕΠΕ κ. Νίκος Κατσακιώρης και τα μέλη της ομάδας της οποίας ηγείται με εντολή της υπουργού Απασχόλησης, κυρίας Φάνης Πάλλη - Πετραλιά, ήρθαν αντιμέτωποι με μια κατάσταση που παραπέμπει στις μαύρες σελίδες του Μεσαίωνα.

Κρύβουν τους «άθλιους» - Ελευθεροτυπία 11.4.2008

Ειδικούς επιθεωρητές του Σώματος Επιθεώρησης Εργασίας (ΣΕΠΕ) έστειλε επειγόντως χθες στη Νέα Μανωλάδα Ηλείας η υπουργός Απασχόλησης Φάνη Πάλλη-Πετραλιά, μετά το αποκαλυπτικό ρεπορτάζ του περιοδικού «Εψιλον» της «Κ.Ε.» στις 30.3.2008 και προχθεσινό ανάλογο δημοσίευμα του «Ελεύθερου Τύπου» για τις άθλιες συνθήκες διαβίωσης και την εκμετάλλευση χιλιάδων αλλοδαπών εργατών στα φραουλοχώραφα της Νέας Μανωλάδας Ηλείας. Οπως είπε στην «Ε» ο Νίκος Κατσακιώρης (γενικός γραμματέας του ΣΕΠΕ), που βρίσκεται στην περιοχή επικεφαλής του κλιμακίου το οποίο πραγματοποιεί τους ελέγχους, οι συνθήκες διαμονής και διαβίωσης των αλλοδαπών εργατών είναι άθλιες. «Στους καταυλισμούς που επισκεφθήκαμε η κατάσταση είναι απαράδεκτη. Τα βρήκαμε κλειδωμένα και όλους εξαφανισμένους. Φανταστείτε ότι αυτοί οι άνθρωποι μένουν σε κάποιες κατασκευές σαν τα στρατιωτικά τολ, που ουσιαστικά είναι θερμοκήπια, τα οποία τα κλείνουν και τα μετατρέπουν σε δωμάτια μέσα στα οποία μένουν δέκα και δεκαπέντε εργαζόμενοι».

Public intervention for migrant workers in hunger strike in Greece

i-RED, the RED Network, the Greek Forum of Migrants, the Platform for International Cooperation on Undocumented Migrants (PICUM), and the Migrants’ Rights Network,

propose the following solution to the current impasse after more than a month of hunger strike by migrants and asylum seekers in Athens and Thessaloníki and urges,

1. the Greek government to:

- Examine expediently under an emergency procedure and on individual basis, the claims of protection by the migrant workers and asylum seekers, currently in hunger strike.

- Implement without any delay short term solutions – in addition to mid and long term solutions provided by the new asylum law – for the provision of emergency humanitarian assistance to and for the protection of the fundamental rights of vulnerable groups by setting up a mechanism to coordinate key social and institutional actors (government, local authorities, the National Commission for Human Rights, the Ombudsman and relevant civil society organisations).

- Evaluate, assess and review in the medium to long term the efficiency of the current migration regulations, especially regarding access and admission in the territory for work and security of status and workers’ protection.

2. the hunger strikers and their supporters to:

- End their hunger strike recognizing that their fight has been successful in making the public aware of critical issues and in mobilising wider support for their concerns.

- Cooperate with the state agencies in order to identify their individual needs and claims without any delay, in view of the availability of a wide range of solutions in the current legal framework.

- Not a single life must be lost.

Ultimately European societies must be the most sensitive to humanitarian and fundamental right issues and they will be judged by their response to the crises and their challenges.

The Migrant Integration Policy Index (MIPEX) is a unique long-term project which evaluates and compares what governments are doing to promote the integration of migrants in all EU Member States and several non-EU countries. It uses over 100 policy indicators to create a rich, multi-dimensional picture of migrants' opportunities to participate in European societies.
The number of “third country nationals” (legal immigrants) living in the EU today is 20 million, and rising. While immigration is an important part of the solutions to Europe’s economic, demographic and competitive issues, setting effective legal and political frameworks for integration is a challenge. To shape and improve effective integration policies, it is essential to have comparable information and fact-based dialogue.
